AC Milan defender Davide Calabria has defended himself after being linked with a move to the club by Paulo Fonseca for not playing at his best following their 2-1 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade.

After the game, the Portuguese boss criticized some of his players for not playing to their full potential, worthy of the Red and Black Devils, adding that he was ready to bring in players from Primavera if the situation did not improve.

Since no one was specifically mention, journalists have been speculating, with Theo Hernandez and Calabria among the names, with the latter not wanting to allow any misunderstandings to arise.

“Hello everyone, I feel the need to clarify something,” the Milan captain posted on Instagram. “I have been putting things off for the past few months, hoping not to react to ‘unpleasant’ situations or completely fabricated stories. Maybe I should have done it earlier. Today I think it’s time to say something.”

“In the past few days and in the past, there has been a lot of inaccurate information circulating around me and our team. Fake news that should not be give credit. But now I believe that there must be a response to protect my image and the team’s image.”

“The sarcasm about my performances on the pitch, my different encounters and my personal life is not true. It creates confusion and division. I ask for respect for myself, for the work I do and for the club we represent.”

“Criticism is part of our job, but lying is not. I ask everyone to do their due diligence before publishing anything that could harm others and our club.”

“We prioritize the game on the pitch, where we work hard every day with the utmost professionalism to improve. I will not let anyone take away from my love and commitment to the club I love.”
