The 44-year-old Steidten first switched professionally from the German lower leagues to become a scout for Bremen in 2008.

He then left the Bundesliga club in 2019 to become head scout of Leverkusen before leaving the club four years later

Steidten has been credited with playing a key role in bringing a number of young talents to the club, including Edmond Tapsoba, Jeremy Frimpong and Piero Ingapi.
